Blue Flame Oil Was Established in 1929. And Now Is Southern CT's Most Reliable HVAC and Oil Delivery Company

In the past, deliveries were done manually by carrying five-gallon buckets into customers’ homes to fill up twenty-five-gallon reserve drums. This fuel was mainly used for lighting stove heaters, which were typically located in the kitchen. These services were carried out when we were located on Franklin Street.

During World War II, oil was scarce and rationed, leading the US government to distribute stamps to families for heating oil delivery. These stamps were crucial for receiving deliveries, and without them there was no possibility of having any delivered. This resulted in the oil shortage. HVAC and Oil Delivery would soon become our specialty.

Heating systems underwent gradual modernization, and by the late 1950s, most homes were fitted with oil furnaces following the Second World War. Number 2 fuel, which is still in use today, was the primary fuel source at that time, which means that the heating systems then were comparable to those of today.

Originally, Blue Flame Oil only provided fuel oil delivery services at its inception. It wasn’t until the early 1960s that the company ventured into offering service, thereby becoming a full-service HVAC and Oil Delivery company. Today, Blue Flame Oil continues to offer fuel oil and diesel fuel, heating and air conditioning service, installations, and oil tank removal services. Blue Flame Oil is a locally owned business that remains in the hands of Pat Somma, a third-generation member of the founding family who is the current owner and operator.

Our Team

Pat

Pat was born into the oil business and is proud of this heritage. His grandparents founded the company in 1929 when kerosene was the fuel of choice. Blue Flame has evolved though the years, passing to his father and now him. New Haven is home to both Pat and the company. It’s not unusual to find Pat out with the guys installing a new system. He’s hands on with all operations, even if those hands get dirty in the process.

Mike

Mike has been with the company since April of ’99. He started as a service tech and has moved into management. He’s a natural, learning the oil business from the ground up by working as a teenager in his grandparent’s company. Drawing on his experience and knowledge, he’s right on target when it comes to trouble shooting.

Joe Gentile

Joe Gentile has been with Blue Flame oil since the early 2000’s. He has been our lead tech for many years and now has moved into the office as Service Manager. Joe is very attentive to the problem and will get the job done.

Fiona

Fiona has been with the company for 5 years and quickly became established as the ‘go to’ inner office person. She brings to the table over 20 years of office management experience.
